Looks like Bill O’Reilly vacation may be a permanent one!
According to New York Magazine, the sons of Fox head Rupert Murdoch are considering firing Fox News host Bill O’Reilly amid pressure over sexual harassment accusations.
O’Reilly’s show lost about 90 advertisers after The New York Times reported earlier this month that five women were paid $13 million to settle sexual harassment suits.
The ad revenue loss, as well as protests outside Fox News headquarters, have contributed to the momentum for removing O’Reilly, New York Magazine said.
From New York Magazine:
Another factor: the Murdochs’ pending $14 billion takeover of European pay-TV provider Sky. On May 16, the British media regulator Ofcom is set to judge whether the Murdochs are “fit and proper” to own such a large media property. Removing O’Reilly could appease critics and help close the Sky deal. (In 2011, the Murdochs abandoned their initial takeover offer for Sky after the London phone-hacking scandal.)
O’Reilly hosts the network’s highest-rated talk show, creating fears about losing viewers if he’s booted.
