Michael Flynn knows everyone involved with Trump and Russia, and he wants to get out of dodge—so much so that he agreed to testify if he were granted immunity. The investigation, growing more damaging to Trump every day, can take down the entire administration, including Mike Pence.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow detailed how Pence is irrefutably connected to the Flynn controversy. Trump appointed Pence to handle the White House transition, which included vetting Trump’s appointees, including Flynn.
In January, Acting Attorney General Sally Yates warned Trump that Flynn could be blackmailed by Russia. Trump waited three weeks to act on this information, and Flynn ended up resigning in disgrace before Trump’s chair in the White House was even warm.
But it wasn’t just Russia that Flynn got into Trouble with. He also took half a million dollars from Turkey on the condition that he push for the extradition of Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen back to Turkey. Flynn actually proposed kidnapping Gülen and to get around the legal system.
Pence continually plays dumb, telling CBS in January “They did not discuss anything having to do with the United States’ decision to expel diplomats or impose censure against Russia” And that the reports accusing Flynn of being a foreign agent are “the first I heard of it.”
Except that he had. In November, Rep. Elijah Cummings sent a letter to Pence asking him to examine Pence’s connections with Turkey. Trump and Pence knew the entire time—and Flynn’s request for immunity is a sign that he knows this will come out.
