Sen. Rand Paul: “Donald Trump Violated The Constitution With Syrian Airstrike”

Sen. Rand Paul hit Donald Trump for his authorization of an airstrike in Syria tonight, suggesting that Trump violated the Constitution by ordering the strike without Congressional approval.

“While we all condemn the atrocities in Syria, the United States was not attacked,” Paul tweeted shortly after reports emerged that Trump had ordered for the launch of more than 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles against a single target, believed to be an airfield near the city of Homs where a gas attack originated earlier this week.

“The President needs Congressional authorization for military action as required by the Constitution,” Paul continued in a series of tweets. “Our prior interventions in this region have done nothing to make us safer and Syria will be no different.”
