Steve Bannon is quickly losing ground at the White House, but the person responsible for his demise might not be Jared Kushner as the story unfolds. Instead, it’s Kushner’s wife and favorite child of the President, Ivanka Trump.
The New York Times reports that “In recent weeks, she has spoken bluntly about Mr. Bannon’s shortcomings to the president. She was especially incensed by articles she believed were planted by Mr. Bannon’s allies suggesting he, not her father, honed the populist economic message that helped sweep the Midwest. She made that point in the strongest terms to her father, who agreed, according to a family friend.”
The feud between Kushner and Bannon might be reaching a tipping point. While Bannon’s supporters are warning of war if Bannon is fired, Trump is moving on, and Bannon is backing down. Ivanka may be the one to convince her father to fire him for good.
But it’s not the country that Ivanka is worried about. She’s there to protect the family brand. Trump’s first 100 days are about to end in complete failure, and they need a victory, not to help people, but to make Trump look good. Ivanka fears that Bannon’s white nationalist rhetoric, along with his failed Muslim ban and attacks on Kushner, will hurt the Trump name.
However, if having to boost Trump’s ego for a day means getting rid of Steve Bannon, America might have to call that a wash.
