A man named “Ralph Allen Shortey” checked in at approximately 12:20 a.m. asking for a room with two beds. Police were called following up with a “welfare check” thirty minutes later.
“On March 9 … officers of the Moore Police Department were contacted in reference to a welfare check at a local hotel. Responding officers found a juvenile male in a hotel room which was also occupied by an adult male. The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation and no additional information can be released at this time.”
Shortey, in office since 2010 has been endorsed by Republican leaders such as Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio for his immigration stances. In 2016, he announced via Facebook that he had been named Donald Trumps Campaign Chair for Oklahoma.
When asked, the Oklahoma State Republican Party seemed to be distancing itself away from the Senator. Pam Pollard, the state party chair said in a statement.
Via Las Vegas Sun, “No person, particularly a child, should be subjected to sex crimes. While we believe in the right to a fair trial and that all people deserve their day in court, the accusations against Ralph Shortey are in no way in line with the principles of the Oklahoma Republican Party.”
