SNL’s first commercial skit with host Octavia Spencer opened with a joke about action movies and a Republican hero simply known as “TBD” (or To Be Determined).
“It was country in chaos, a nation divided,” intoned a stern narrator. “Led by a president with unchecked power.”
The gag was a none too subtle jab as Congressional Republicans who have largely cowered to the new president and his ferocious Twitter account. Yes, both John McCain and Lindsey Graham have spoken out, but neither man has done near what must be done.
“The AV Club calls it a touching tribute to whoever it ends up being about and Rolling Stone says, it’s definitely not about Paul Ryan.”
“Courage Compassion Country … The TBD Story.”
