On “Morning Joe” today, Mika Brzezinski, Joe Scarborough, and the Washington Post’s David Ignatius discussed Donald Trump‘s snub to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Trump pointedly declined to shake the German leader’s hand during the press photo-op, despite being asked by the media and — reportedly — even Merkel herself.
Scarborough said, “I find it spectacularly clumsy, short-sighted, some might even say stupid to not shake the hand of your most important ally.”
“Buffoon-like,” interjected Brzezinski.
“It was obviously rude,” added Ignatius “You don’t diss a key ally the way he’s done now.”
“Why wouldn’t he shake her hand?” asked Brzezinski.
“To stick it to Germany,” offered Ignatius.
“I don’t think he thinks that hard,” Mika shot back.
“Does he think his base really sits around all day thinking about Angela Merkel?” asked Scarborough in disbelief.
“I have a different hypothesis. I think he’s thinking about what he’s going to eat for dinner,” said Brzezinski dismissing Trump’s ability to even focus on Merkel. “I don’t think he’s even there, honestly, I think he has ADD or something and he’s not even there, he’s out of it.”
