An unlikely friendship has blossomed between former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Michelle Obama. In America’s current political climate which seems to be broken into two different warring factions, it is lovely to see that they have been able to bridge the political divide. The behavior of the two former figureheads is a grand example to the rest of the nation that common ground can be found in even the most unlikeliest of places.
Michelle Obama and George W. Bush were photographed at an event last September in Washington, D.C. with Obama embracing the former president with a hug and Bush with a large smile on his face.
Bush said of the two’s friendship:
Anybody who likes my sense of humor, I immediately like. I can’t remember where else I’ve sat next to her, but I probably have a few wise cracks and she seemed to like it okay. ‘I needle her a little bit and around her, I’m fairly lighthearted. They are around serious people all the time and we just took to each other.
It was recently announced that Barack and Michelle Obama will be paid a stunning $60 million to write their memoirs by Penguin Random House. The publisher said in a statement:
With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same. Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.
