A photo of Sen. Chuck Schumer and Vladamir Putin has been circulating Friday, which conservatives are trying to use as a defense against Attorney General Jeff Sessions meeting with the Russian ambassador. Sessions has now recused himself from any investigation regarding Trump and Russia.
The 2003 photo shows Schumer and Putin eating doughnuts in 2003 during Putin’s trip to New York to attend the opening of a Russian gas company’s station.
Now Donald Trump has jumped into the fray, tweeting, “We should start an immediate investigation into @SenSchumer and his ties to Russia and Putin. A total hypocrite!”
Of course, there is nothing wrong with Schumer meeting with Putin. There was nothing wrong with Sessions meeting with the Russian ambassador. The issue is Sessions lied about it. And he used Trump campaign funds to pay for the trip, which again, is a conflict of interest.

@realDonaldTrump Sen Schumer didn't lie about meeting with Putin. You, Jeff Sessions, and all of your administration has.
