Suspicions about President Trump’s “immigration”(deportation) policy are being confirmed after a new policy intentionally splits mothers from their children in those effected by the new Department of Homeland Security laws.
The new policy is meant to deter immigrants looking to escape to the United States. Under President Obama families would be released from prison and allowed to stay together pending a deportation hearing, under the new rules the mothers would wait in prison while on trial.
Via Reuters: The policy shift would allow the government to keep parents in custody while they contest deportation or wait for asylum hearings. Children would be put into protective custody with the Department of Health and Human Services, in the “least restrictive setting” until they can be taken into the care of a U.S. relative or state-sponsored guardian.
Republicans argue that South American immigrants factor in being arrested and choose to travel to America despite this under the pretense that their court trial will not be for several years.
Via Reuters: Implementing the new policy proposal “could create lifelong psychological trauma,” said Marielena Hincapie, executive director at the National Immigration Law Center. “Especially for children that have just completed a perilous journey from Central America.”
Trump DHS Secretary appointee John Kelly ordered the criminal prosecution of parents who bring their children with them, in an effort to discourage immigrants from seeking refuge.
Via OccupyDemocrats: The developments under Mr. Kelly appeared to continue the theme of deception carried out by Trump cabinet members. During senate confirmation hearings, Mr. Kelly appeared to disagree with much of Mr. Trump’s hateful and ignorant positions against those seeking refuge in the United States.
