In a rare acknowledgment, FBI Director James Comey confirmed on Monday that the agency is investigating potential ties between President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Russian officials.
Comey also acknowledged that the agency is looking into Russia’s attempts to meddle in the 2016 election.
“That includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts,” Comey said at a public hearing of the House Intelligence Committee.
It was unclear in the run-up to the hearing whether Comey would outright acknowledge the existence of such a probe.
