President Donald Trump is doing his best to endear himself to the American people by attacking the rights of disabled children. Surely Trump will be gaining points towards his super villain merit badge with this latest nefarious maneuver.
In a stunning move the “Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” website has been removed from the Internet. Why? This is unclear, but it has been the doing of the newly confirmed, and woefully unqualified, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos who only got her job because her family has donated over $200 million to Republican candidates.
The Department’s failure to keep this critical resource operational makes it harder for parents, educators, and administrators to find the resources they need to implement this federal law and protect the rights of children with disabilities. The website has provided accessible and informative summaries of the law, training materials, sample educational forms, presentations for the public, and so many other user-friendly resources.
It is clear that Trump and his administration intended to attack the rights of disabled children. But why? Trump has vowed to cut trillions of dollars from the budget and to make a push toward paying back the enitre debt of the United States. This is contradictory to Trump’s history of not paying his own bills and proclaiming himself to be the “king of debt.” The rubber is meeting the road and with Trump actively legislating it seems all bets are off and nobody is safe — not even some of the most vulnerable children in society.
