President Donald Trump has painted himself into a corner with all of his divisive rhetoric and disingenuous talking points. The stagnation of Trump has forced members of his own party to distance themselves from him as well, but there is one Republican senator who has been taking the fight directly to Trump for months. Sen. John McCain and Trump have absolutely no love lost between the two of them, and they have traded barbs in the media. Previously Trump said he did not believe McCain, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam for years, was a war hero because he was captured. Now McCain has fired the latest blow across the bow.
I think that the Flynn issue obviously is something that shows that in many respects this administration is in disarray and they’ve got a lot of work to do. The president, I think, makes statements (and) on other occasions contradicts himself. So we’ve learned to watch what the president does as opposed to what he says.
McCain’s critique of Trump’s behavior is apt and accurate. Trump is known to flip-flop on an issue moments after he took up a position which seemed unshakeable. The best way to deal with an individual such as Trump, who has free reign to do as he likes, is to watch and study his behavior rather than listening to his talking points.
