The media in the United States was stunned in disbelief when President Donald Trump banned numerous media outlets from attending a White House press briefing. Such a tactic was never employed before in the history of the nation, and many rightfully were outraged at Trump. The freedom of the press is a bedrock principle on which the United States and its society has been built. There were rumblings that Trump had been considering taking this tactic, but few believed he would actually follow through. Even Trump’s own press secretary initially denied the accusations months ago, but now he has proved to be a liar.
During an interview Sean Spicer said:
I think we have a respect for the press when it comes to the government that that is something that you can’t ban an entity from. I think that’s what makes a democracy a democracy versus a dictatorship.
Well apparently Spicer now works for a dictator. This scenario cannot possibly work out in Trump’s favor. The media will not stay silent as they are not allowed to do their jobs merely because Trump does not like the words which they are writing, or the stories which they are broadcasting. Trump has now awoken the sleeping giant and he will soon learn that he should not pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel.
