The comments of Donald Trump on the campaign trail have led to a massive backlash by women who are disgusted with his behavior, particularly when he bragged about sexually assaulting women. He said he is able to grab women “by the pus*y” and get away with it because he is rich and famous. While Trump was never charged with a crime, the public is levying consequences against him and his family by refusing to do business with him. This can be observed by the boycott surrounding Trump’s daughter, Ivanka and her brand of clothing and accessories.
The campaign to not spend money on Trump products is called “Grab Your Wallet.” Their mission statement is as follows:
The #GrabYourWallet boycott began October 11, 2016 in the wake of the Trump Tapes when a brand strategist and a grandmother simultaneously realized they could no longer in good conscience shop at retailers that do business with the Trump family.
The protest’s success can be observed after they convinced the retailer, Nordstrom to pull Ivanka Trump’s goods from the shelves because they weren’t selling. A spokesperson said, “In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”
Rather than admit the protesters are having an impact on her bottom line, Ivanka Trump’s company issued a nonsensical statement elaborating why losing money and retail support doesn’t matter to them because they have integrity. Seriously, they said that:
We believe that the strength of a brand is measured not only by the profits it generates, but the integrity it maintains. The women behind the brand represent a diverse group of professionals and we are proud to say that the Ivanka Trump brand continues to embody the principles upon which it was founded. It is a company built to inspire women with solution-oriented offerings, created to celebrate and service the many aspects of their lives.
If the goal of Ivanka Trump’s brand was to inspire women, they have surely been inspired – to not do business with President Trump or his family. That is very likely not what Ivanka Trump had in mind and until she understands the difference, her business ventures will continue to suffer.
