During today’s joint news conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Trump was asked about his previous statements about Syrian refugees being “Trojan horses.” Trump somehow found a way to bring that back around to his election victory.
Asked if he felt the northern border with Canada was secure based on Trudeau’s open arms policy towards refugees, Trump pivoted first to the efforts being done by Homeland Security regarding immigration raids and deporting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
Following that, Trump bragged about his victory over Hillary Clinton, claiming that he’s only doing what he was elected to do.
“I’m just doing what I said I would do when we won by a very, very large Electoral College vote. And I knew that was going to happen.”
He continued, “I knew this is what people were wanting. and that wasn’t the only reason. That wasn’t my only thing that we did so well on. But that was something that was very important.”
