President Donald Trump has been unable to silence all of the workers inside of the White House to prevent them from leaking embarrassing information to the news media. Now it appears that as more information is allowed to come to light, the more unprepared Trump appears.
Eliot Cohen was a member of President George H.W. Bush’s National Security Council. He said of Trump’s behavior based on leaked information, “I’ve been in this town for 26 years. I have never seen anything like this. I genuinely do not think this is a mentally healthy president.”
For example, it has been reported, through leaked information, that Trump makes it a point to watch the performance of his press secretary, Sean Spicer, every single day. This is strange as Spicer is supposed to lighten Trump’s load rather than add to it, and presidents typically are too busy to watch a daily press briefing every single day. Trump, however, has made the time. This is after he said he does not want to attend military briefings every single day. So Trump has time for media briefings, but not military briefings. Is it not the job of the president to attend to military matters to keep the United States safe from those who mean to do harm to the nation and its citizens? Yet here the nation sits, with a president far more concerned about image than about the actual information which could prevent terrorists from doing harm to America’s citizens. Trump’s behavior is disgraceful.
