Donald Trump regrets choosing Sean Spicer to serve as White House secretary, according to a new report from CNN.
Trump is disappointed in Spicer’s performance thus far, the network reports, citing a source familiar with internal communications.
It’s the latest story about internal White House maneuvering, some of which Trump advisers have publicly called out as false.
Numerous stories, apparently leaked by various people working at the White House, have circulated in the last few weeks, prompting speculation about feuding in the new administration.
Many of the stories have suggested tensions between White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and staffers loyal to him, and people in the general orbit of White House adviser Steve Bannon.
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway in a separate interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday insisted reports of White House friction were untrue, saying that staff had worked closely together over the long campaign and bonded.
The CNN report saying Trump was unhappy with Spicer and blames Priebus for pushing for Spicer for the job.
“Priebus vouched for Spicer and against Trump’s instincts,” a source told CNN.
The president “regrets it every day and blames Priebus,” the source added.
