The job of President of the United States entails many responsibilities, and few are as sacred as appointing new members of the United States Supreme Court. Traditionally a president is able to nominate and have confirmed, whoever he likes for the position. However, that all changed during the second term of former President Barack Obama who received the ire of Republicans who stalled his nominations at every turn. The Republican party then swept the presidential election, while maintaining their majority in the Senate. This has placed President Donald Trump in a powerful position to nominate and have accepted, numerous Supreme Court nominees.

The Supreme Court has several elderly justices including liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She was giving a talk at Stanford University when she said she would like to have the Electoral College removed from the election process. Ginsburg said, “some things I would like to change, one is the Electoral College.” However, Ginsburg was unable to elaborate upon her thought because after she stated her desire the room filled up with thunderous applause.

If and when the attempt is made to remove the Electoral College it surely would fall to the Supreme Court to make the final decision on the matter. If Ginsburg has her way there is no question where her vote would fall. However, the 83-year-old Ginsburg is the oldest member of the Supreme Court and fears that her seat may be empty under Trump, is a frightening.
