The complete lack of foreign policy understanding on the part of President-elect Donald Trump is staggering. It is as if the man has no concept as to what the job of the president is, nor about the various deals and agreements the president must undertake to ensure the world stays relatively peaceful. This ineptitude was on display during Trump’s completely idiotic pledge to move an embassy of the united States in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Even the mere mention of this possible scenario coming to fruition has the entire Middle East on edge, as the implications are grave and serious for all people who live in the region.
Trump was warned by the government of Jordan that they would take drastic action against him and the government of the United States, and their allies, if Trump follows through with his plans. The Information Minister for the Hashemite Kingdom, which is their official government spokesman, Mohammed Momani, said, “It will definitely affect the bilateral relationship between countries in the region, including Jordan, and the parties that will be related to such a decision.” He also said there would be “catastrophic” repercussions.
The new Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, offered a cheerful spin on the matter:
It was a campaign promise and there is every intention to keep it. We are going to see a very different relationship between America and Israel in a positive way.
It seems unlikely Trump will back off, and the rest of the world will be forced to pay for his ultimate stupidity.
