During the presidential campaign of 2016 Donald Trump promised the American people that he would “drain the swamp.” Many took the words of Trump to mean he would stop the blatant cronyism infecting the political system of the United States, but Trump has stacked his cabinet with Washington insiders. Apparently, Trump intends to dismantle a variety of protections and provisions meant to keep the American people from falling victim to tyrants.
Trump’s prerogative to dismantle a variety of aspects that were put in place by former President Barack Obama have been clear as glass and can be observed via the White House’s official website. During Trump’s first full day in office he had the White House regulations website removed. If one attempts to visit the website they will receive the message, “Sorry, the page you’re looking for can’t be found.”
A regulatory policy advocate from the Public Citizen named Amit Narang raised serious concerns about Trump’s recent policy shift. He said, “We are concerned, because we see President Trump claiming false facts when it comes to the cost of regulations and completely ignoring the benefits of regulations. It’s weird to put a campaign talking point up on the White House website, which conflicts with the official figures from the federal government.”
One wonders what Trump will do next if his attacks on the American consumer have been so open and blatant on his first day.
