Donald Trump has now admitted that U.S. taxpayers will pay the initial bill for his proposed wall on the nation’s southern border, a project that will start “in months.”
Trump pledged during the 2016 campaign that he would make Mexico pay for the wall, which is meant to cut off the flow of drugs and illegal immigration into the U.S.
Now, he is saying the federal government will “absolutely” be “reimbursed at a later date.”
“I’m just telling you there will be a payment,” Trump said in an interview with ABC News. Of course there are no details, because like facts, details don’t seem to be important either to Trump or his administration.
Trump is expected to issue a new directive on Wednesday calling for the wall to be built.
“As soon as we can. As soon as we can physically do it,” he said when asked when construction will begin.
Pressed on a timeline, Trump said: “I would say in months. Certainly planning is starting immediately.”
