The Republican party finds itself holding majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate. When Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th President of the United States the Republicans will have total control of the Federal government. However, Democrats are still ready and willing to fight back using any method they can devise. Trump still has to get his cabinet nominees approved through the senate, which could prove difficult.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is demanding Democrats grant a quick passage of Trump’s nominees, but some are saying not so fast. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has taken to the ancient history books of 2009 to dig up some of McConnell’s own words to use against him. In a bout of terribly amusing political theater Sen. Schumer took a copy of McConnell’s letter, crossed out McConnell’s name, affixed his own, and sent it off to him as if he had written it himself. Schumer said of the stunt via Twitter:

Through years of obustrctionism it is very strange to see Republicans calling for Democrats not to use the exact same tactics which were used against them in the past. Love or hate Republicans one thing individuals must admit is that their tactics did work. The American public was too slow or lacking in attentive detail to pay attention to who was causing the gridlock in Washington, and many believed the fault fell to Democrats because they were in power. The same tactic can now be applied to Republicans. They know it, and Democrats know it. One can expect there to be a lull in any form of progress in the coming years.
