Donald Trump loves adulation, he loves people to cheer him on…this was one of the reasons he loved his rallies so much. He got off on the fans cheering for him and chanting his name. So it is devastating to Trump that no one wants to be involved in his inauguration.
Trump is soon to be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. Many members of the public are attempting to thwart Trump’s inauguration efforts by embarrassing him on the national stage. To accomplish this there has been a concerted effort for A-list celebrities to refuse to attend, or perform at the inauguration. Thus far the effort has been mostly successful as Trump has had a publicly difficult time at booking talent for his event. However, one group Trump was able to secure is the marching band from the historically black liberal arts college The Talladega College.
Some alumni of Talladega College are speaking out about the decision for the marching band to perform. Shirley Ferill, class of 1974, said, “We were a bit horrified to hear of the invitation.” She went on to say, “I don’t want my alma mater to give the appearance of supporting him. Ignore, decline or whatever, but please don’t send our band out in our name to do that.”
The school’s spokesman, Greg Cannon, spoke briefly about some of the marching band’s decision to not perform for Trump. He said, “They don’t want to have anything to do with the inauguration or President Trump and we respect that, and that’s their right.”
The resistance against Trump will continue, and individuals will continue to stand against his presidency whenever possible. The next four years will be difficult for all individuals on the planet thanks to Trump, and therefore his time in office should be made difficult as well.
