The election of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States has sparked nationwide protests, where thousands of individuals have taken to the streets to give voice to their outrage. The Trump campaign, in typical fashion, has responded to the protests with disdain and contempt.
Trump’s senior adviser, Kellyanne Conway, was a guest on cable network Fox News where she shared with host Sean Hannity her thoughts on the protesters. Conway said:
I was raised the way you were raised. Very humble beginnings. But, most importantly, we were raised to respect the office of the presidency and current occupant and the flag.
Conway’s attempt at being folksy were disingenuous as she said the protesters were crying “crocodile tears about who won the election.” She went on to say that the arguments made by the protesters will have absolutely zero impact on Trump’s presidency, and that the protesters should accept their new political reality for the next four years:
When I listen to protesters and professional politicians, whine and cry over Donald Trump’s election, I haven’t heard anything new. All of their grievances and complaints are so pre-election. We heard all of this. We heard it constantly from the elites, from the mainstream media, from many of the paid protesters before the election. And yet it was rejected.
Hannity was equally unsympathetic for the protesters who he called “crybabies.” There is no room for conciliation with the Republican leadership who will continue to rub their victory in the faces of their vanquished political foes.
