Ellen DeGeneres is one of America’s darlings. Someone who makes us laugh, some we can turn to when we’re feeling down, knowing she will cheer us up.
She was also firmly, firmly with Hillary.
But on her show Wednesday she did her best to remind everyone that we are all Americans…that we are more alike than we are different, and that it is time to come together.
DeGeneres took to her platform to tell America why—and how—we can come together:
“Doesn’t matter if you’re a liberal or a conservative, we’ve all passed out watching Netflix and woke up not knowing what episode we’re on… what season we’re on… whose couch we’re on.”
She urged both Democrats and Republicans to get along through very relatable experiences:
“No matter what your politics are, we all have that feeling of stepping out of the shower and realizing you left the towel completely across the bathroom…”
And she reminded people of their similarities:
“If you take away the labels, you realize we’re far more alike than different. We have so much in common, our differences actually make us stronger.”
DeGeneres then did everyone a favor by ending the segment with a video showing cute animals of all kinds getting along with one another, and trying to change the nation’s narrative from “Ahhh!” to “Awww.”
