Donald Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States while having exactly zero experience in politics. Some viewed this as a positive, but the reality is Trump doesn’t understand the nuance that is required to be the chief executive of a country. This aspect of Trump’s personality was put on display for all to observe when a transcript of a telephone call between himself and the Prime Minister of Pakistan became available for public consumption.
The tone and tenor of Trump’s conversation were entirely baseless and full of nothing but pure lip service. In part the transcript, according to the Pakistani government, said:
President Trump said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif you have a very good reputation. You are a terrific guy. You are doing amazing work which is visible in every way. I am looking forward to see you soon. As I am talking to you Prime Minister, I feel I am talking to a person I have known for long. Your country is amazing with tremendous opportunities. Pakistanis are one of the most intelligent people. I am ready and willing to play any role that you want me to play to address and find solutions to the outstanding problems.
While the translation is likely not word for word, it does show Trump is willing to bend over backward to put himself on good terms with world leaders. Trump, who talked tough during the campaign, now shows he was full of hot air. One wonders how Trump’s supporters will react when they see how friendly he is being to the leaders of Middle Eastern countries?
