If one were to think of a word to describe Donald Trump, the incoming 45th President of the United States, “gracious” would surely be missing from the list. Yet that is exactly how he was described by his top adviser on a cable network television show in regards to Trump’s back peddling on prosecuting his vanquished presidential foe Hillary Clinton. However, Trump may not be willing to not prosecute if Clinton continues to pursue election remedies in the form of a voter recount.
Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s former campaign manager and now senior adviser, was a guest on CNN’s State Of The Union when she said:
This is the president-elect’s position right now and I would say he has been incredibly gracious and magnanimous to Secretary Clinton at a time when for whatever reason her folks are saying they will join in a recount to try to somehow undo the 70 plus electoral votes that he beat her by.
Using intimidation as a method to force the hand of others is part and parcel of Trump’s team’s repertoire. Conway went to say:
I mean this — you know, I was asked on CNN and elsewhere, goodness a thousand times, will Donald Trump accept the election results? And now you’ve got the Democrats and Jill Stein saying they do not accept the election results. She congratulated him and conceded to him on election night. I was right there. And the idea that we are going to drag this out now where the president-elect has been incredibly magnanimous to the Clintons and to the Obamas is incredible.
The recount is going to happen, and threats by Trump and company will stop it from transpiring. Various irregularities have already been discovered, and may prompt and nationwide recount if the public makes enough noise to give a voice to that demand.
