If Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is attempting to win over the hearts and minds of black Americans, he is certainly going about it in the wrong way. Trump, who one said “laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is; I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.” Presently Trump is sitting with nearly 0% support in the black community, and based on how he treated one of the only black faces in the crowd at one of his rallies, it is of little surprise why his support is so low.
It seems that Trump believed the individual who was removed from the rally, named C.J. Cary, was a protester rather than a supporter. Trump has no time for individuals who have ideas other than his own and he seeks to squash dissent immediately, which gives a window into how he would run America. According to Mr. Cary, he was attempting to gain Trump’s attention because, while he is a supporter, he felt Trump’s rhetoric was too incendiary. He had written a letter he hoped for Trump to read. According to the Charlotte Observer Cary’s letter said:
He urged Trump to be less offensive and more inclusive to four demographic groups: black people, women, people with disabilities and college students.
Cary was successful in grabbing Trump’s attention, but not in the manner which he sought. Trump saw Cary and said, “We have a protester! By the way, were you paid $1,500 to be a thug?”
