Friday is the day when the Republicans and Trump finally have called it quits on one another, after audio leaked from 2005 of Trump talking about his affinity for having sex with married women, saying he would grab them in the p*ssy. John McCain has stood with Donald Trump through thick and thin, but that is finally coming to an end.
Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.) tweeted “McCain has stood by Trump after attacking Khan family, veterans, women & immigrants. We know where McCain stands — with Trump […] Trump’s comment proves: In the past McCain took the mic from those who didn’t deserve it. In 2016, he supports them for president.”
McCain’s statement on Trump: “There are no excuses for Donald Trump’s offensive and demeaning comments […] No woman should ever be victimized by this kind of inappropriate behavior. He alone bears the burden of his conduct and alone should suffer the consequences.”
Via TheHill: Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and Richard Burr (R-N.C.) both called the remarks “inappropriate.” Meanwhile, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) said the comments were “outrageous and unacceptable.”
McCain is facing an election this year against Kirkpatrick, although he current has a double digit lead – look for him to separate from Trump if he can, or if the Trump antics continue. Apparently, enough is enough, even for the GOP.
