The line of individuals signing up to stand against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continues to grow, from individuals of all political persuasions. A sharp slap in the face came to Trump in the form of 30 former Republican lawmakers who all affixed their names to an open letter decrying Trump’s candidacy stating he does not have the temperament, nor the intelligence to be President of the United States.
The letter, in part, stated:
Our party’s nominee this year is a man who makes a mockery of the principles and values we have cherished and which we sought to represent in Congress.
The letter continued further describing the shared disdain for Trump:
Given the enormous power of the office, every candidate for president must be judged rigorously in assessing whether he or she has the competence, intelligence, knowledge, understanding, empathy, judgment, and temperament necessary to keep America on a safe and steady course. Donald Trump fails on each of those measures, and he has proven himself manifestly unqualified to be president.
The disgusted lawmakers concluded their plea with the current Republican leadership to drop Trump:
It is in that spirit that, as Donald Trump’s unfitness for public office has become ever more apparent, we urge our fellow Republicans not to vote for this man whose disgraceful candidacy is indefensible. This is no longer about our party; it’s now about America. We may differ on how we will cast our ballots in November but none of us will vote for Donald Trump.
The lawmakers who signed the letter includes those who are vehemently against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, as one of them led the investigations against the Clinton family in the past. Even they are against Trump, which is saying something about how dangerous his ascension to the White House would be.
