Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s supporters are known to make outrageous and often bigoted comments, and a conservative commentator lived up to that billing while she was a guest on Sky News.
Kay Burley and Conservative commentator Lauren Southern went head to head in a discussion about illegal immigration. Southern maintains the position that immigration is not taken seriously by world leaders. She said, “I mean it is almost like our leaders have completely forgotten what legal immigration is. Everyone seems to feel bad for all of these illegal immigrants and all of these refugees coming in on boats.”
Southern appeared to be concerned for individuals attempting to gain entry to a country legally. She asked, “What about the people waiting five years come into the country legally? I don’t even know why legal immigration even exists anymore when I can just put on some bronzer, get on a dingy boat and just show up at the beaches of Sicily with the Koran in my hand and be accepted as an immigrant.”
The Sky News host was outraged at Southern’s comments and cut her off from speaking. Burley said, “No no, we are not saying things like that on my program.” Burley later called Southern a racist.
Viewers were split in their support of Southern and Burley. For her part, Southern says she has no plans to apologize, “I don’t know how Kay Burley thinks she’s the mature one in this situation when she’s made herself a laughing stock on Twitter. I certainly won’t be apologising and I don’t feel the need to explain.”
