Trump says he’d have caught Osama bin Laden sooner

The mastermind behind the 9-11 terrorist attacks, Osama bin Laden, was hunted for over 10 years by the American government before he was finally found and killed in a remote village by U.S. Special Forces under the direction of President Barack Obama. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump says if he had been president he would have captured and killed Osama bin Laden much sooner.

While giving a speech in Cleveland Trump said:

“I would have been tougher on terrorism. Bin Laden would have been caught a long time ago before he was ultimately caught, prior to the downing of the World Trade Center.”

Trump’s comments were not at random, and likely had to do with the upcoming 15th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks that killed almost 3,000 Americans and injured thousands more. A large portion of Trump’s campaign platform is to criticize President Barack Obama’s leadership and decision making. Trump also attacks Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s time when she was Secretary of State. Of the two Trump previously stated, “Under the leadership of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the generals have been reduced to rubble, reduced to a point where it is embarrassing for our country.”

While seeking to tout his foreign policy credentials, Trump has offered the nation little substance to what policies he would enact. Instead, he offers empty rhetoric without offering details. Would Trump have captured Osama bin Laden? How? Using what methodology? What information would Trump have had that the current presidents did not have? He cannot answer these questions not because he plays coy, but because he is flatly a liar and hopes the American won’t notice.
