Republican Nominee Donald Trump is unsuccessfully trying to capture the black vote after polls are showing that Hillary is winning them over overwhelmingly. Trump’s idea of winning over blacks is to make insane statements about how bad their lives are and how “HUUUUGE” and “AMAZING” he’s going to make their lives.
Trump spoke at a rally in Kenansville, N.C saying “Our African-American communities are absolutely in the worst shape they’ve ever been in before. Ever. Ever. Ever […] You take a look at the inner cities. You’ve got no education. You’ve got no jobs. You get shot walking down the street.”
Via Politifact: Being better than the past is “a pretty low bar,” said Bruce Levine, a historian at the University of Illinois-Champaign Urbana, who has authored books about slavery and the Civil War. Not only do African-Americans currently trail whites in many economic measures, but they “continue to face major discrimination in hiring, access to housing, mortgages, and decent schools and — as almost weekly headlines from around the country demonstrate — death, while unarmed, at the hands of police.”
Is Trump forgetting about Jim Crow, about slavery, about everything? It’s impossible to know, since whenever Trump is obviously wrong he comes out and says “I was just being sarcastic!”. Has Trump completely forgotten about two centuries of slavery, a century of discrimination, public lynching of blacks, a complete refusal to integrate blacks into southern society?
The way that Trump talks about African-American society makes it sound as if they are living in a zombie apocalypse. They can’t walk down the street without getting shot. Meanwhile Trump and his faction are part of the “All Lives Matter” the group that mocks blacks who want to draw attention to the fact that the media and society has completely ignored tragedies occurring in the black community.
Via PolitiFact: In August 2016, the unemployment rate for African-Americans was 8.1 percent. While that’s almost double the rate for whites — 4.4 percent — it’s only been this low for black Americans in 5 percent of months since 1972.
So trump is WRONG about employment.
Via Politifact: Nationally, the black poverty rate is 24.1 percent, which is much higher than the 9.1 percent percent it is for whites. But that’s still lower than it has been in the past.
The annual black poverty rate never fell below 30 percent between 1966, the first year it was tracked consistently, and 1994.
So Trump is WRONG about poverty.
Via Politifact: Shortly after 1900, black men could expect to live from birth until their early 30s, and black women could expect to live until their mid 30s. Since then, life expectancy for African-Americans has essentially doubled.
So Trump is WRONG about black life expectancy.
What is Trump right about, anything? It’s not that blacks are having amazing wonderful lives in America, it’s that he clearly has no idea what he is saying, and always resorts to speaking in offensive platitudes. How can anyone take this guy seriously?
