Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has caused yet another controversy, this time by releasing another list of names who he is likely to appoint to the United States Supreme Court if he were to win the White House.
The list of 10 names reads as a who’s who of bigots in American government. In a statement Trump said, “We have a very clear choice in this election. The freedoms we cherish and the constitutional values and principles our country was founded on are in jeopardy.” While previously stating his list of potential picks would be more of a guide as to who he would nominate, Trump turned and about face and vowed that his new list is finished and that only those named would be considered for the highest court in the land:
This list is definitive and I will choose only from it in picking future justices of the United States Supreme Court.
Trump’s picks have endeared him to former Republican presidential rival, Senator Ted Cruz. While previously unwilling to endorse Trump for president, Cruz said with his picks for the Supreme Court Trump has changed his mind:
For some time, I have been seeking greater specificity on this issue, and today the Trump campaign provided that, releasing a very strong list of potential Supreme Court nominees.
Winning the favor of Cruz will likely go a long way in helping Trump make inroads amongst the rabid conservative Christian right, some of whom believe the world is flat and that the rapture is coming very soon. Trump claims his list will not change, but he has never been one to keep his word and the American people should not expect him to start to do so now.
