The Presidential debate Monday night saw Hillary Clinton crush Donald Trump, and as usual a scapegoat has been found, which is why Lester Holt has come under extreme scrutiny. In what could appear to be the same way that Matt Lauer came under scrutiny for his treatment of Hillary Clinton, Holt is being blamed for the poor performance of Trump, but is it the same? Holt asked Trump 5 questions, as oppose to Lauer who spent half of Hillary’s air time discussing her e-mails.
Trump accused Lester of being a Democrat on the O’Reilly factor before the debate occurred, before it was shown that Holt is actually a registered Republican. Trump campaign head Kellyanne Conway claimed that Trump wasn’t lying though, because he didn’t know that Holt was a Republican, so it didn’t count — if that makes any sense?
However, the attacks against Holt are much different – Trumpers are accusing Holt of taking bribes from the Clinton Foundation. That he somehow was intentionally trying to throw the direction of the debate. Holt’s Facebook page has been receiving thousands of comments an hour making comments in line with what the right wing media machine talking points were.
It isn’t just Holt who Trump and his followers have gone after, it’s a more vast conspiracy, that includes Trump’s microphone!
Via CNN: “And they also had, gave me a defective mic. Did you notice that? My mic was defective within the room,” he told a group of reporters afterward. “No, but I wonder, was that on purpose? Was that on purpose? But I had a mic that wasn’t worked properly, with, working properly within the room.”
But, what will all of this mean for Holt? Will Conservatives be effective in boycotting his NBC shows? Is this different than Matt Lauer?
Mark Cuban has been getting death threats just for attending the debate: “Second, I got tickets because I wanted to bring my 13-year-old daughter, whose birthday it was yesterday […] Unfortunately, we’ve been getting death threats, and Trumpians have been trying to hack everything we have, so I’ve had to spend too much time on security and protecting my family.”
I think that Lester Holt did a superb job moderating the debate last night. Apparently, that sentiment isn’t shared by the Trumpers.
