WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was the interview guest on Friday nights Real Time With Bill Maher. Maher, who has had Bernie Sanders on his show countless times throughout the years, was still visibly less than enthusiastic about WikiLeaks document dump of Democrat (DNC) communications pointing out to Assange a distinction between “transparency and privacy”.
When probed why they targeted the Democrats and not Trump, Maher inquired further:
“Why don’t you hack into Donald Trump’s tax returns?” Maher asked Assange, who was speaking via satellite from the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
“We’re working on it,” Assange replied.
Via RawStory: “Why haven’t we seen anything hacked from the Trump campaign?” Maher asked. “Obviously we know these came from Russia. And we also know that you do not like Hillary Clinton at all, as does not Vladimir Putin. It looks like you are working with a bad actor, Russia, to put your thumb on the scale and basically f*ck with the one person who stands in the way of us being ruled by Donald Trump.”
Snowden has been critical of WikiLeaks, saying they are hostile to even modest curation. Maher, who thinks that Assange deserves to win a nobel prize (he’s been nominated multiple times) seemed to view Snowden more favorably than Assange, who in his tone sounded dismissive “he did one thing” “that was a very important thing”. Sounding, like Assange often does, that he wants the show to be about him.
Assange on Snowden “I know Edward is trying to get a pardon at the end of the Obama presidency,” Assange argued. “He’s playing that game, I understand.”
