Donald Trump has plenty of lunatic supporters in America, but the man who decided to climb Trump Tower in New York City for the sole purpose of meeting Trump might just be the craziest of them all.
Michael Joseph Ryan, 19, of Great Falls, Virginia loaded up his climbing gear and ventured to New York City. He began his climb at around 3:30 p.m. EST, and made it all the way to the 21st floor before he was yanked through a window by a special unit of the NYPD.
Ryan changed his name before attempting his stunt. Officially Ryan’s name is now Stephen Rogata, and speculation is he put forth the change to protect his family’s identity in the ensuing media swarm that would undoubtedly follow the incident.
During the epic climb Ryan evaded police for nearly three hours after gaining the attention of the world. When police made contact with Ryan through a window, Ryan made it clear through the use of a notebook that he meant no harm and that he only wanted to meet Trump.
Ryan also made a video a couple of days before he made his climbing attempt, outlining why he was going to do what what he did.
Michael Cohen, Trump Tower Organization’s executive vice president released a statement, he said, “This man performed a ridiculous and dangerous stunt. There’s damage to the building and he caused the unnecessary deployment of New York’s finest to protect his safety and the safety of everyone in the building. I’m 100 percent certain the NYPD had better things to do.”
Ryan has been charged with reckless endangerment and criminal trespassing. He is presently being held at Bellevue Hospital undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
In a twist of irony, Ryan is from Virginia and Trump was in Virginia campaigning the day he climbed the tower. If Ryan wanted to meet Trump he should have just stayed close to home.
