Robert De Niro has been a fan favorite to billions of people around the world for decades. He has starred in some of the biggest box office hits in the history of cinema. Now the legendary actor and producer has broken his silence about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Mr. De Niro was in Sarajevo presenting the war torn citizens with a digital version of “Taxi Driver” one of his classic films which was directed by Martin Scorsese and released in 1976. He was there as part of the twenty-second annual Sarajevo Film Festival. The festival was founded as an act of defiance during the Bosnian war. Mr. De Niro received a lifetime achievement award.
When asked about Donald Trump, Mr. De Niro did not mince words. He said, “I don’t know, it’s crazy that people like Donald Trump …, he shouldn’t even be where he is, so God help us. What he’s been saying is really totally crazy, ridiculous … he is totally nuts.” The comments were received with a wild applause from the audience. He went on to say:
But I think now they are really starting to push back, the media … finally they are starting to say: Come on Donald, this is ridiculous, this is nuts, this is insane.
The famed actor is another individual of influence around the world who has stood up to say no to Donald Trump’s brand of vile rhetoric and hate. There are few individuals in Hollywood which Trump can call a friend or ally, and that list of names is dwindling down by the day.
