Mexico’s President just humiliated Trump, proved Trump’s a liar
The president of Mexico just humiliated Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump after the pair had a private meeting.
The faux-billionaire visited with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. During the meeting Trump said, “We did discuss the wall, we didn’t discuss payment of the wall, that will be for a later date. This was a preliminary meeting, I think it was an excellent meeting.”
However, that was not the way things actually happened. In Trump’s world fantasy is often spun as reality. President Peña Nieto wrote via Twitter, “At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall. From there, the conversation addressed other subjects and developed in a respectful manner.”
The statements by Peña Nieto did not phase the Trump campaign. Trump’s spokesman, Jason Miller, said in a statement, “Today was the first part of the discussion and a relationship builder between Mr. Trump and President Peña Nieto. It was not a negotiation, and that would have been inappropriate. It is unsurprising that they hold two different views on this issue, and we look forward to continuing the conversation.”
Democrats were not nearly as generous in their assessment of Trump’s meeting. The press secretary for the Democratic National Committee, Mark Paustenbach, said, “Today in his Mexico press conference, Donald Trump lied about discussing how to pay for his wall with the Mexican president. Trump has boasted for months that he is going to get Mexico to pay for his ridiculous wall but when he came face to face with the Mexican president he got out maneuvered and then tried to cover it up on worldwide TV. Simply put, Donald got rolled.”
It seems Trump’s tough talk to television cameras does not equate to actual tangible results with world leaders. Trump has no authority and is losing in the polls, so it makes perfect sense for the president of Mexico not to give in to Trump’s demands. If Trump was looking to gain prestige over his visit, he certainly failed.
