Proving he is willing to do anything to score a cheap political point, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wants to visit Louisiana to “help people.” Sure. Can you imagine the orange failed businessman rolling up his sleeves and passing out water to individuals who have been displaced by the torrential flooding? Only if he was passing out his own “Trump water”, while charging $5 a bottle because it is the greatest water in the history of the world.
The governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, not to be confused with disgraced Sen. John Edwards, has signaled The Donald is more than welcome to visit the state. However, Gov. Edwards has insisted Trump’s visit be to help individuals in the state, and not to attempt to use it as a tool for political gain. In a statement by Edward’s office he said, “Donald Trump hasn’t called the governor to inform him of his visit. We welcome him to LA but not for a photo-op. Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm.”
The likelihood of Trump making a “sizable donation” is next to nill. Trump regularly boasted about giving “millions of dollars” to charity, but deeper investigation found he had given barely $10,000 of his own money to various charities over the years. But when have facts ever stopped Trump?
True to form Trump’s campaign has denied the GOP nominee would be doing anything in Louisiana but lending a helping hand. Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said, “it will be a decidedly nonpolitical event, no press allowed, going to help people on the ground who are in need.”
Don’t hold your breath.
