In an article posted to the website Medium Caroline McCain wrote a post “I’m With Her” to show her support for Hillary Clinton.
If you know me at all, you know I am a woman fiercely loyal to my friends and family. And so it was on July 18 when I already knew that I had enough reason to never vote for Trump.
Following a line of other right-wing wacko birds, Trump insulted a man I esteem and love, a man who has risked his life in service of his country. He insulted my grandfather and attacked the very qualities — loyalty, bravery and selflessness — that he and countless other POWs embody. He mocked the sacrifice many have given and the anguish families have endured when their heroes have suffered alone miles away.
My grandfather responded with grace and forgiveness — as only a man who was held in captivity for years can. But I’ve been nursing a grudge ever since. Trump’s statement, in my view, is unforgivable, and speaks to the kind of man he is: a coward who has never faced danger in his life, an insecure brat who shirked duty for comfort, and a man who is wholly unfit to serve as commander-in-chief.
Via TheHill: McCain wrote that Trump never won her over during his candidacy, calling him a “misogynist,” “racist” and “demagogue,” citing his remarks on women and minorities throughout his campaign.
She said she decided to support Clinton during the Democratic National Convention this week, where Democratic heavy-hitters touched on themes of American exceptionalism in an effort to win over reticent Republicans.
“The party I grew up in, the party I want to work in and change and push to be more inclusive, betrayed me and countless others,” McCain wrote.
He has repeatedly called for the increase of torture, and for murdering the families of islamic jihadists.
He is the result of a demand for ideological purity at all costs, and the bastard child of talk radio and entertainment TV.
Top Reaganite Voting For Hillary
Doug Elmets worked in the Reagan administration, and is a staunch Republican, a Republican who isn’t voting for Trump. Elmets on Thursday night addressed the DNC to endorse Hillary Clinton for President.
“It’s an honor to be here. Candidly, it’s also a shock … because, unlike many of you, I’m a Republican…I’m here tonight to say, I knew Ronald Reagan. I worked for Ronald Reagan. Donald Trump, you are no Ronald Reagan.”
Via HuffPo:“This year’s Republican platform is the most alarming I’ve ever seen,” Elmets continued. “It’s laced with anti-immigrant, anti-gay, anti-women positions that do not represent the views of most Americans. That is why this year I will vote for a Democrat for the first time.”
Elmets spoke before a Democratic crowd, but looking into the cameras, he urged Republicans watching on TV to consider switching over with him this time around. He contrasted Reagan’s famous call to “tear down this wall,” referring to the Berlin Wall, with Trump’s call to “build the wall” along the U.S.-Mexican border. He credited Reagan with understanding nuance, compared to Trump’s “us vs. them” approach to diplomacy.
Jennifer Pierotti Lim followed Elmets in the speaking order, and is another Republican voting for Hillary. Lim is not just endorsing Clinton, she plans to knock on doors, make phone calls, and even donate to Clinton – despite being a Republican.
Via LATimes: “It’s really important that Republican leaders, especially Republican women leaders, stand up right now and say we’re not OK with Trump representing our party,” Lim told CNN last month. “This was a long road for me to get here.”
